ASREP Joins the Global Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP)

ASREP Africa has joined the Global Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP), taking its place within the world's leading peacebuilding network — a community of more than 300 organizations working across 181 countries. For a Think-and-Do Tank rooted in Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), membership marks a significant step onto the global stage and a strategic milestone in ASREP's growing web of partnerships.

A Global Network for Locally-Led Peace

AfP convenes many of the world's most experienced peacebuilding institutions, connecting practitioners, researchers, and policy actors around a shared goal: preventing violent conflict and building durable, inclusive peace. Joining this network gives ASREP access to a global exchange of evidence, methods, and collaboration — and, just as importantly, a platform to bring the realities of Africa's drylands into international peacebuilding conversations that too often overlook pastoralist regions.

The value of that exchange runs in both directions. ASREP gains from the collective knowledge of a worldwide community, while contributing hard-won experience from Isiolo County and the wider ASALs, where climate stress, competition over natural resources, and social division are deeply intertwined.

Where Peace, Climate, and Livelihoods Meet

Within AfP, ASREP will champion evidence-driven, locally-led solutions that advance peacebuilding, climate security, indigenous knowledge, and resilient livelihoods across Africa's drylands. This reflects a conviction at the heart of ASREP's work: in the ASALs, peace cannot be separated from the health of the land or the strength of local economies. When rangelands degrade and water grows scarce, the risk of conflict rises; when communities can restore ecosystems and secure their livelihoods, they build the foundations of lasting stability.

Positioning indigenous knowledge alongside scientific research, ASREP approaches peace as something communities author themselves — not a settlement imposed from outside, but an outcome grown from local trust, participation, and stewardship.

Building on a Community-Led Model

Membership in AfP extends the reach of a model ASREP has already put into practice across Isiolo County — one that places pastoralist communities at the centre of both ecological restoration and social cohesion. As ASREP steps into this global network, its commitment remains unchanged: to keep peace, resilience, and opportunity firmly in the hands of the communities of Kenya's drylands.
